Freqnt exists as a way to combine over a decade of experience working as a sync artist and film composer with the business and admin side of composing, and countless tools that never quite did the job.
Freqnt is currently built on three fundamentals: Cloud, for collaborating and delivering; Catalogue, for managing your portfolio metadata; and Analytics, for a full picture of your PRO and publisher royalties.
Freqnt is a music software company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was founded by Oliver Keenan-Lyu, an artist and composer with over 400 tracks out through libraries, publishers and creative agencies. Freqnt is building the tools we need, for like-minded composers, producers and publishers.
I started the idea around creating a collaboration platform. I had used other software similar but felt that they were missing vital parts that us composers actually deal with when collaborating or delivering music.
I began working with a friend of mine—A graphic designer (James from Mintviz) here in the UK— to come up with the logo concepts and initial website design, we spent time on the side during the summer months of 2024 putting this together.
We originally purchased Freqnt.music and .io .music is now our label and publishing side of the company; we have now ditched .io and secured Freqnt.audio for our Saas side of the company.
The Freqnt name is granted UK trade mark registration, filed the previous May.
Attending a end of label end of year party in Paris, some friends and I began talking about ideas of a way to collectively analyze your PRO and publishing royalty statements, to track trends, help you position yourself on the numbers that work. What began as a proposal turned into something I wanted to create, for real.
After a short break, my focus was on building the publishing side of Freqnt. With foundations in place, I am now building out the Freqnt Music catalogue.
I started the build whilst maintaining my full-time dad position, writing an album and mixing multiple EPs. Locked in the styling, focusing on building the portal first with the 3 services: cloud, catalogue and analytics.
I made the decision to apply for a patent for our Version Matrix feature in Freqnt Cloud. After much research I couldn't find anything like it, and I want to protect this feature, so now, the Version Matrix is patent pending!
The services are complete. I spent most of July fine-tuning the look and functionality of the services.
A couple of weeks late, but I finally finished most of the copy for the platform (including this timeline). Testers are invited and testing the app to help shape it before we launch to the public.
Yes. Nothing in your workspace is stored with public permissions. Every file is reached through a signed link that expires, and that applies to the full-quality masters and the MP3 previews alike. There is no permanent public URL to your audio.
No. Reviewers and guests comment, listen, approve and download for free, always. You don't need an account to view a share page. Their activity counts against the workspace owner's plan, never their own.
Yes. If you add a member to your workspace, they'll need an account so they have access to it.
If you share your workspace via a share link, viewers do not need an account to view or interact.
Yes! We introduced a custom plan for this very thing, as we know our users may not need every tool we offer. Head to your billing page or the pricing screen and click the custom tier option to configure your monthly price, based on the tools you use.
It's our new (patent pending) system for tracks in Cloud workspaces. Versions run across, variants run down: V1, V2, V3 against Full Mix and then any format of variant you need, whether that's Instrumental, Underscore or a 30s cut. Every cell in the grid holds its own audio, stems, comments and voice notes, so feedback lands on the exact timestamp it's about rather than on the track in general.
A fork (V1a) sits off to the side in its own lane, for trying something you might not keep without disturbing the main chain, an alternative or say a limited/mastered version; if you decide to keep it, promoting it brings it in as the next revision of its parent, so V1a becomes V1.1, and nothing is re-uploaded. A revision (V1.1) stays in the chain next to the version it revises, for when one variant or cutdown of an otherwise good version needs another pass.
No. Creating a revision carries the whole column forward: the same audio and stems, your voice notes, and every comment exactly where you left it, replies included, with anything you had already resolved still resolved. Approvals come with it too, so a cut that was already signed off doesn't come back asking to be reviewed again. You then only re-upload the variant that actually changed.
You most certainly can! We allow you to place comments and voice notes directly on the waveform, standard practice these days, and also place comments on a selected section.
You can! Part of our workspace is letting collaborators and share link viewers download everything they need. As a collaborator you can download each version, its variants and stems, in bulk or individually.
As a share page viewer or contributor, you can download whatever the workspace owner has set for you to download.
This was one of the big hurdles to figure out, as each PRO (Performing Rights Organization) and publisher has their own statement format. We created a modelling system which lets us hard code statement readers and also modelling extensions. If you upload a statement we don't recognize, our statement uploader does its best to parse your data, and if it looks correct to you it gets added to our modelling queue so we can save the data structure for future use.
The file itself is never kept. It's deleted from storage as soon as it's been read. We store the earnings data from inside it against your account, which is the point of the tool. For a format we haven't seen before we also keep the column headers and the shape of the sheet so we can build a proper reader for it, and that part is structure only, with none of your numbers in it.
Not at all, and your audio never reaches a model in the first place.
We do use AI, but only on small amounts of text or numbers, and only for organisational work:
Never the audio itself. We don't train anything on your data, and neither does the model provider we use.
Because it hadn't finished arriving. Royalties reach you months after the usage they're paid for, and different societies pay on different rhythms, so a recent quarter is genuinely incomplete rather than wrong. As statements land, the number goes up.
We treat that as a fact about the data instead of hiding it: any period whose last month falls inside the trailing six months is marked as still settling, shown shaded and flagged, and we don't compare against it, because "down 100% on last quarter" is meaningless when last quarter is half-reported. Once a period is settled it stops moving, and everything the landing page adds up is settled only.
No. The Catalogue tool is fully private, for managing your metadata internally and running mass exports. If there's enough demand I'd love to build a public catalogue profile, so you could configure what to showcase and share your work from it, but it's not something we've shipped yet.
It depends on your tier, plus any storage add-on packs:
Tracks and stems count towards your usage, as does audio you attach directly to a catalogue work. Documents and artwork don't.
Usage is measured across the workspaces you own, so anything a collaborator uploads into your workspace counts against your plan rather than theirs.
There certainly is. Under account settings, usage, you'll find a reclaim space button. It scans the workspaces you own for older versions you are no longer working from and converts their lossless audio to 320kbps MP3, which is what frees up space on tracks with long version histories while keeping them worth listening to.
What it never touches is the cut you are actually using, meaning the default variant of your default version, however old it is. Anything promised by an active share link with downloads enabled is also left alone, so you can't accidentally break a link you've already sent, and only audio is converted, once a version is around six months old.
Your work stays put. We don't delete your audio because you changed plan, and you can always get to it: play or download anything you've uploaded, whenever you like. That holds on every plan, including free.
What changes is what you can add. If your library is bigger than your new plan allows, nothing is taken away, but new uploads wait until you're back under the line. Links you've already sent keep working, and if yours was on your own subdomain, it still opens on freqnt.audio.
The one thing that eventually stops is delivery to other people, and only if you stay over your storage limit. We email you the day you go over. Your share and delivery links carry on for 30 days from then, and if you're still over when the month is up they pause, so anyone holding one is asked to get in touch with you rather than shown your work. Your own access is never affected. No nasty surprises.
Almost! The build is around 80% done. Once the mobile app has shipped, our next focus is a desktop app for both Windows and Mac.
